QuizMaxx is on Google Play as a closed test: the Android version is installable only by people on a tester list. This page is how to get onto it.
You do not need to be a tester to use QuizMaxx. The web version at quizmaxx.app is the same app — offline, installable, no account. This is about the Play Store build.
What is being asked of you
Install it and leave it installed for at least fourteen days. That is the whole commitment. Google counts testers daily and the count has to hold, so someone who uninstalls after a week resets a clock for everybody.
Open it a few times. Ten minutes of use is worth more than a fortnight of an unopened icon.
Say something if it breaks. One sentence is a useful bug report. The Android build is the web app in a native shell, so the seams are where trouble lives: the back button, the status bar colour, audio in the music round, the map on a small screen.
No review, no rating, no feedback form, no schedule.
How to join, in three steps
All three are needed, and the second is the one people miss.
- Join the tester group. Ask to join the quizmaxx-testers Google Group, using the same Google account your phone uses for the Play Store. A different account is the usual reason step two fails.
- Accept the test. Open the opt-in link and press the button to become a tester. Without it, Play says the app is unavailable and does not say why.
- Install from Play. The download button appears on that page once you have opted in, and can take a few minutes to show up.
Android only. On an iPhone, use the web app: Share → Add to Home Screen.
Reporting something
Reply on the Google Group, or use the feedback control in the app's settings. Your phone model, roughly what you were doing, and what happened — you are not expected to reproduce it or work out the cause.
Crashes are the most valuable and the rarest. Layout problems on unusual screen sizes are the most common, and worth sending.
Your data
Study progress stays in your device's browser storage unless you create an account to sync it, and the Play opt-in tells Google you are a tester and nothing else. The Google Group shows your name and email address to other members; leaving it removes you from the test.
Why fourteen days
Google requires apps from individual developers to run a closed test — a set number of testers, opted in continuously for fourteen days — before it can reach the public Play Store. QuizMaxx is one person's project, so the rule applies.
It is a hurdle, and clearing it needs a dozen or so people willing to keep an app installed for a fortnight. In exchange: the Android build early, and a direct line to whoever fixes what you report.
If pub quizzes are your thing anyway, the rest of the site is the argument for bothering — what 684,841 quiz questions say about what actually comes up, how to prepare for one, and 364 short essays.
